Why should I join the AKF?
Joining Karate Victoria opens a spectrum of unique and invaluable opportunities to your organisation and your students. Founded in 1970 and based on the four major Japanese styles of Goju, Shito, Shoto and Wado, we have expanded to embrace all schools that genuinely pursue the traditional values and principles of karate-do.

Karate Victoria is the state’s Premier Karate organisation
We aim to develop, foster and promote the art of karate in Victoria . We are a non-profit, Government recognised governing body for all karate-do in Victoria . Members have access to our policies in such important areas as 'Drugs in Sport, anti-discrimination, infectious diseases, risk management, etc.

We offer world class competition
Karate Victoria members have a range of unrivalled opportunities for competition. Either directly or through our affiliation with the National Australian Karate Federation and also the World Karate Federation and the Oceania Karate Federation our recreational and elite standard athletes are offered access to the most prestigious karate tournaments including the World Championships, World Cup, Cadet World Championships. Many more opportunities are available at International, National and State level.

We are affiliated with the Australian Olympic Committee
Karate Victoria , through the Australian Karate Federation is the only karate organisation affiliated with the Australian Olympic Committee. In conjunction with the WKF we are progressing plans to inaugurate karate into the Olympic and Commonwealth Games.

Our instructors are internationally recognised
Our dan grades and referees are recognised by every major international country and sporting organisation.

We provide education programs for members
Our members enjoy a diverse choice of subjects as part of our education program. They are eligible to gain internationally recognised qualifications in a number of fields. Karate Victoria regularly runs technical seminars and clinics featuring high profile sensei's, coaches, athletes and referees. These supplement our local programs for youth and elite athletes.

Karate Victoria delivers NCAS accreditation courses
In cooperation with the Australian Sports Commission we conduct a National Coaching Accreditation Scheme program to ensure our members have the latest up-to-date knowledge, tools and qualifications.

Our members have access to AIS facilities and resources
Access to AIS is available to our elite athletes and coaches. Our highly respected and successful coaching staff regularly take groups to the AIS to make full use of the latest developments in sports science and coaching methods to improve the performance of our young athletes.

Karate Victoria maintains the traditional values of karate-do
Karate Victoria supports the fundamental traditional values of karate-do as a means of contributing to community and social development, improving harmony in the world and as positive influences on people’s character. Passed down by the founding fathers of karate-do the basic tenants of respect, honestly, loyalty, discipline, trust, perseverance and courtesy are viewed as distinguishing karate-do from other fields athletic and sporting endeavour
